Disorientation

Disorientation is a multimedia project that explores the college drinking environment through visual distortion and typographic experimentation. Inspired by the chaotic atmosphere of flashing lights, muffled voices, and slurred speech, I created 25 studies using blurred imagery, distorted type, and gradients to simulate intoxication.

These explorations led to a 15-second risograph animation using party dialogue that progressively breaks down, mirroring the effects of rising blood alcohol levels. Pink and yellow hues reflect the overstimulation of a loud, crowded space.

Frames from the animation were adapted into postcards and posters, using repetition and layered typography to evoke noise and confusion. A final collaborative zine presents our full process and visual narrative as an accordion-fold book, with a gradient scale symbolizing the progression from sober to drunk—designed to unfold to human scale.

This project was done in collaboration with Dani Chang.
